How to care for your beautiful Tulips.

There is no doubt tulips are a crowd favourite. Their seasonal appearance bring an abundance of stunning colours and varieties that don't disappoint. We have the privilege of having local growers in Perth who are producing incredible flowers this season. This has made for happy customers who take a great product home.

Despite their beauty, they aren't renowned for their endurance. Tulips can be a tad delicate. Some easy little tricks will ensure you get the best of your tulips.

Now, although everyone has that favourite vase, an important step in tulip care is choosing an appropriate vase. Tulips need support and require a vase that is atleast half the height of the flowers. Once they grow, this provides support for the long stems.

Tulips love cold water. When you bring these babies home, grab your vase and fill it with cold water. Each other day, refresh the vase to keep the water fresh and cold. The water should be filled to around two-thirds of the vase. If needed, remove excess leaves so there aren't any submerged in water. Additionally, give the stems a snip each time with sharp scissors. 2cm should be sufficient.

Tulips are sensitive to heat and light. An important part of tulip care is to avoid overexposure to light. Tulips are photosensitive and grow based on sunlight and heat. To avoid early opening and wilting of the flowers, keep them in a cool spot if possible.

If you provide these flowers with some extra attention, you'll ideally get a longer vase life from them. Tulips are fascinating and are one of the only cut flowers that continue growing once cut from their bulb. They are hard to beat as a cut flower, particularly when cared for and styled correctly. Our local growers are producing some stunning tulips this season and we strive to pass this value and quality on to our customers.
