How to
Care for your Flowers
When you take your flowers home, you want to enjoy them for as long as possible... right? While we do our best to ensure your flowers are as fresh as possible, there are some steps you can take to extend their vase life. These steps are especially important in the warmer months of Perth.
1. Clean Vase,
Fresh Water and Trim.
Ensure your vase is clean and free of any bacteria. Fill the vase up to 2/3 full and remove any excess foliage beneath the water to prevent the build-up of bacteria.
Trim about an inch off the bottom of the stems at a 45-degree angle. This allows for better water absorption and prevents the ends from sitting flat at the bottom of the vase, which can impede water intake.
2. Flower Food
Use fresh-cut flower food, or alternatively, create your own homemade recipe. There are plenty of recipes online that work perfectly as a substitute. You can make a homemade solution using a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of bleach to inhibit bacterial growth. Flower food is highly beneficial to keeping the water fresh and free of bacteria.
3. Refresh Water
Refresh the water every day or so and give the vase a rinse. Flowers love fresh water. You can also give the stems a small snip each time you refresh the water to ensure they are drinking well.
4. Placement
Place your flowers in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and drafts. Heat and sunlight can accelerate wilting.
